Brigadoon?

So what's going on here then?

Here's a picture of a particular place, in England, taken in the year 2000.

And here's the same place, 5 years later, in 2005.

Where did the village go, and why?

Intriguing!

Things don't ring true. If you find this place on Google Earth, you'll find a whole lot of anomalies, like an airport in the middle of a housing estate, but simple redevelopment is not the whole story here.

Google Earth censorship. Military strategic importance, etc.....

Pete, it's not censorship, or they would have removed or obscured the historical images. Nor is it military. But it does have an abstract connection to the military.

Was it a real village? Perhaps it was one of those army facilities built to train soldiers for urban warfare?

You're sort of on the right track Jim.

No, it wasn't a real village, but it wasn't anything to do with the MOD, although it did have an indirect link to warfare.

It was the film set for band of brothers I believe, quite scary that you could build a whole village for a tv series then knock it all down, I bet Hollywood and the surrounding areas are a treasure trove for magically appearing/dissappearing buildings
My original thought was it was the buncefield oil depot but that's a few miles west

You're absolutely right John. It's in Hatfield, and it's a movie set for a war film, and is actually on an airfield that's since been redeveloped into a college/industrial estate. When you look closely at the village you find that most of the roads lead nowhere, and the layout doesn't really make sense.

Good call on looking for historical images in and around Hollywood, by the way. That's a project that could easily yield a future blog post here.
